How Much Does Cremation Cost?

If you or your loved one pass away, a decision will need to be made about what is to be done with the body. By planning ahead, you can avoid leaving this stressful decision to your family. Look into end of life costs such as funerals and cremations to determine how much money will be needed to afford these services. This is what you can expect cremations and other end of life services to cost.

Cremation Costs

A cremation is a service wherein a body is burned and the ashes are either retained and given to the family or disposed of. The cost of a cremation varies, depending on the provider offering the service and what other services they will be providing. Direct cremation may cost between $2,000 and $5,000 dollars, with costs dropping if the family is able to produce their own urn and container for cremation.

Additional services, such as viewings offered in a funeral home will further increase end of life costs. Full funeral services with cremation costs included can range from $4,000 to $10,000. Low cost cremations that cost as low as a few hundred dollars may be available in some states, but these services will not include full funeral home viewings or other more costly perks.

Preparing For Cremation Costs

You may not frequently think about the end of your life, but now may be a good time to start. Your family shouldn’t be left to shoulder the cost of cremating you on their own, so plan ahead. End of life coverage can protect them from the financial costs associated with a deceased family member.

Types Of End Of Life Coverage

There are several types of end of life coverage available to consumers. Traditional options, like whole life insurance, offer policyholders a very large lump sum payment in exchange for premium payments made throughout their lifetime. Final expense policies, on the other hand, require far smaller payments and offer a much smaller payment upon the policyholder’s death. In turn, final expense policies are much easier to obtain than traditional life insurance policies and are therefore a good choice for people who were unable to qualify for those policies.
